Louisville, KY (February 25, 2025) – A woman and a Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officer were hospitalized after a crash on the Gene Snyder Freeway Monday night.
According to LMPD spokesman Aaron Ellis, the collision occurred around 10:00 p.m. in the northbound lanes near the Westport Rd exit. Two LMPD officers were assisting a stranded driver on the side of the interstate with their emergency lights activated when a woman traveling northbound rear-ended one of the police cruisers.
The officer inside the cruiser at the time of the crash was able to exit the vehicle and check on the driver who struck him. Emergency responders from EMS and Anchorage Middletown Fire provided medical treatment to both individuals before transporting them to local hospitals.
The LMPD officer was taken to Norton Brownsboro Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover. The woman was taken to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as well. Authorities suspect that she was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
LMPD’s Eighth Division is conducting an investigation into the accident.
Our thoughts are with those injured, and we wish them a full recovery.
DUI-Related Accidents in Kentucky
Driving under the influence is a major cause of serious accidents across Kentucky. Impaired drivers have slowed reaction times, reduced coordination, and impaired judgment, making them a significant danger to others on the road.
According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), DUI-related crashes contribute to hundreds of injuries and fatalities statewide each year. Accidents involving emergency vehicles are especially concerning, as they often occur at high speeds and involve vehicles stopped on the roadside.
Victims of DUI-related crashes often face costly medical bills, rehabilitation, and emotional distress. Kentucky law allows those injured due to another driver’s negligence to seek compensation for their injuries, lost wages, and other damages. Understanding legal rights and options can be critical for those affected by impaired driving incidents.
If you or a loved one has been injured in an accident involving an impaired driver, seeking legal assistance can help in securing compensation and holding responsible parties accountable.
