Louisville, KY (February 25, 2025) – Two people were injured and taken to the hospital after a vehicle rear-ended a Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) cruiser on Interstate 265 North at the Westport Rd exit Monday night.

According to police, the crash occurred around 10 p.m. while two LMPD officers were assisting a stranded driver on the side of the Gene Snyder Freeway. During their response, a vehicle collided with a marked LMPD cruiser, which had its emergency lights activated. An officer was inside the vehicle at the time of the impact.

Authorities stated that the driver of the vehicle that hit the cruiser may have been under the influence of alcohol, though an official determination has not been confirmed. The officer inside the cruiser was able to exit the vehicle and immediately check on the other driver before calling for additional help.

Emergency responders transported the injured officer to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the striking vehicle was taken to UofL Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident remains under investigation by LMPD’s Eighth Division.

Our thoughts are with those injured in this accident, and we hope for their full recovery.

DUI-Related Accidents in Kentucky

Accidents involving impaired drivers are among the leading causes of severe and fatal crashes in Kentucky. When drivers operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, their reaction time, awareness, and ability to make safe decisions are significantly impaired.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), DUI-related crashes result in hundreds of injuries and fatalities across the state each year. Rear-end collisions, particularly those involving emergency vehicles, can be especially dangerous due to the high speeds often involved.

Victims of DUI-related accidents may face significant medical expenses, rehabilitation, and emotional distress. Kentucky law allows those injured due to another driver’s negligence to pursue compensation for their injuries, medical costs, and other damages. Seeking legal assistance can help victims understand their rights and recover the compensation they deserve.

If you or a loved one has been injured in an accident involving an impaired driver, it is essential to seek legal guidance.
