Lincoln, NE (February 24, 2025) – Two people were injured, including one critically, in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of 40th Street and Old Cheney Road on Friday afternoon, according to the Lincoln Police Department.
The crash occurred shortly after 4 p.m. when a Ford F-150 pickup, driven by a 79-year-old woman from Trenton, Nebraska, was traveling north on 40th Street. As she entered the intersection, she collided with a Hyundai Elantra driven by a 32-year-old Lincoln woman, who was making a left turn to go east on Old Cheney Road.
Following the impact, the pickup veered off the road and struck a nearby fire hydrant. Both drivers suffered injuries and were transported to a local hospital. The Trenton woman sustained life-threatening injuries and remained in critical condition as of Sunday.
Authorities confirmed that neither drugs nor alcohol were suspected as factors in the crash. The intersection was closed for over four hours as investigators examined the scene.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims, and we hope for their full recovery.
Car Accidents in Nebraska
Intersection crashes, like the one at 40th Street and Old Cheney Road, are common and often result in severe injuries. These collisions frequently occur due to failure to yield, misjudged turns, or driver inattention. When larger vehicles, such as pickup trucks, are involved, the risk of significant damage and critical injuries increases.
Victims of car accidents often face extensive medical expenses, lost wages, and long-term rehabilitation. Nebraska law allows injured individuals to seek compensation for their losses through insurance claims or legal action. Understanding these rights is crucial for obtaining necessary financial and medical support.
