Detroit, MI (February 24, 2025) – A devastating three-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 in Detroit left two people dead and several others injured on Sunday afternoon.
Michigan State Police (MSP) reported that troopers were dispatched to the crash site on southbound I-75 near Mack Avenue at approximately 3:00 p.m. Upon arrival, authorities confirmed that two individuals had tragically lost their lives.
According to an initial investigation, a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria traveling in the left lane struck a 2021 Chevrolet Traverse that was either slowing or stopped in traffic. The impact caused the Traverse to collide with a 2022 Kia Telluride, which was then pushed into a 2024 Jeep Wrangler.
A 50-year-old Novi man who was a passenger in the Crown Victoria was pronounced dead at the scene, along with a 56-year-old Farmington Hills woman who was riding in the Kia. The other occupants of the involved vehicles sustained minor injuries.
Officials noted that the 58-year-old woman driving the Crown Victoria did not brake before impact. The findings of the investigation will be submitted to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
The freeway was temporarily shut down as investigators worked at the scene.
Our hearts go out to the families of the victims during this difficult time, and we hope for a full recovery for those injured.
Highway Crashes and Traffic Safety in Michigan
High-speed crashes on major roadways like I-75 often result in severe injuries and fatalities, particularly when multiple vehicles are involved. Factors such as distracted driving, speeding, and sudden traffic slowdowns contribute to many highway collisions. Rear-end crashes, like this one, can be especially dangerous when vehicles fail to stop in time.
Michigan roadways have already seen a high number of traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries in 2025. According to state police, 94 people have died on Michigan roads this year, with an additional 397 suffering severe injuries. These statistics highlight the importance of cautious and attentive driving, particularly on high-traffic freeways.
For victims and families impacted by fatal crashes, the aftermath can be overwhelming. Medical expenses, funeral costs, and emotional trauma can create lasting hardships. Understanding legal rights and available support resources is crucial in navigating recovery.
