Bicycle Accidents in New Mexico
Bicycle accidents in New Mexico, particularly in high-traffic areas like Tramway Blvd and I-40, often result in severe or fatal injuries due to the vulnerability of cyclists compared to larger vehicles.
According to the New Mexico Department of Transportation, bicycle-related crashes account for a significant number of traffic fatalities and serious injuries in the state each year. Factors contributing to these accidents include low visibility, driver inattention, and right-of-way violations.
Cyclists are encouraged to wear protective gear, use designated bike lanes when available, and remain alert while riding near traffic. Likewise, drivers of motor vehicles—especially large vehicles such as buses—are urged to exercise caution, double-check blind spots, and remain aware of bicyclists on the road.
Victims of bicycle accidents and their families may have legal options to seek compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, and other damages if negligence played a role in the crash.
