Salina, NY (February 23, 2025) – A serious multi-vehicle crash on the New York State Thruway early Friday morning left an 18-year-old girl critically injured after a hit-and-run incident involving a tractor-trailer.
According to New York State Police, the crash occurred around 6 a.m. when the driver of a pickup truck lost control while traveling westbound. This caused a chain reaction as a Ford F-550 attempted to avoid a collision by slamming on its brakes and veering off the shoulder of the road. A Jeep, driven by 22-year-old Christopher Baker of South Glens Falls, then rear-ended the Ford, partially entering the passing lane.
At that moment, a westbound tractor-trailer struck the Jeep and continued without stopping. The impact left Baker’s passenger, 18-year-old Anneka Pray of Darien, with severe injuries. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and worked quickly to assist those involved. Pray was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Authorities later located the tractor-trailer and its driver, 35-year-old Sarjo Drammeh of Wisconsin, at the Seneca Service Area. The crash remains under investigation as officials work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and her loved ones during this difficult time.
The Dangers of Hit-and-Run Crashes on Highways
Hit-and-run accidents, particularly on high-speed roadways like the New York State Thruway, present a serious danger to all road users. When a driver flees the scene of an accident, it not only complicates rescue efforts but also creates legal and financial challenges for victims. In cases where large commercial vehicles, such as tractor-trailers, are involved, the force of impact can be devastating.
Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that hit-and-run crashes have increased in recent years, often leaving victims with serious injuries or fatalities. The reasons for these incidents vary, with some drivers fleeing due to fear of legal consequences, lack of awareness, or reckless behavior. However, leaving the scene of an accident is a criminal offense, and those responsible can face severe penalties.
Victims of hit-and-run crashes often require extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation. In situations involving critical injuries, recovery can be long and costly. Legal avenues exist for victims and their families to seek compensation, whether through insurance claims or personal injury lawsuits against negligent drivers.
Drivers are urged to remain vigilant on highways, maintain safe following distances, and report any suspicious or reckless behavior to authorities.
