Kansas City, MO (February 23, 2025) – A four-vehicle collision on Interstate 70 in Leavenworth County left one woman dead and three others injured Friday evening, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred when a Nissan, traveling eastbound on I-70, attempted to pass an Isuzu in the adjacent lane. During the maneuver, the Nissan drifted from the inside lane into the outside lane, striking the Isuzu. The impact caused the driver of the Isuzu to lose control, sending the vehicle over the median barrier wall and into westbound traffic.
As the Isuzu entered the opposite lanes, it collided with an Acura before rolling over and crashing into an Infiniti in the outermost westbound lane.
Emergency responders arrived to find multiple people injured. Lili McCann, a 50-year-old passenger in the Infiniti, suffered critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The driver of the Infiniti, 54-year-old Douglas McCann, sustained serious injuries and was also taken to the hospital.
The driver of the Isuzu, identified as 53-year-old Gabino Garcia, suffered severe injuries and required hospitalization. Officials have not confirmed the condition of the Nissan driver or whether any additional passengers were involved.
The Kansas Highway Patrol continues to investigate the sequence of events leading up to the crash.

Multi-Vehicle Collisions and Highway Safety in Missouri
Highway crashes involving multiple vehicles are among the most dangerous types of roadway incidents, often resulting in chain reactions that lead to severe injuries and fatalities. Factors such as lane drifting, sudden lane changes, and loss of vehicle control frequently contribute to these accidents.
According to highway safety data, multi-vehicle crashes on interstates are often intensified by high speeds, making it difficult for drivers to react in time to avoid secondary impacts. When a vehicle crosses a median into opposing traffic, the consequences can be catastrophic due to head-on or rollover collisions.
To reduce the risk of highway accidents, drivers should maintain lane discipline, stay aware of surrounding traffic, and use caution when changing lanes, especially at high speeds. Defensive driving strategies, such as allowing adequate space between vehicles and avoiding distractions, can help prevent fatal crashes.
If you or a loved one has been affected by a highway collision, seeking medical attention and understanding legal options are essential steps toward recovery.
