LaVale, MD (February 22, 2025) – Two people tragically lost their lives in a house fire that broke out Friday morning in LaVale. The fire, which occurred at 26 Asbury Ave, was one of three deadly fires reported across Maryland within 12 hours, according to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

Fire units were dispatched to the scene at approximately 10:15 a.m. after employees from a nearby business noticed heavy smoke and flames coming from the residence. Emergency responders arrived quickly to battle the fire, but despite their efforts, two individuals were found deceased inside the home.

Officials have not yet released the identities of the victims as investigations into the cause of the fire continue. Fire marshals are working to determine whether electrical issues, heating equipment, or other potential hazards may have played a role.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant about fire safety measures, including the proper use of space heaters, checking smoke detectors, and ensuring safe escape routes in the event of a fire.

Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims during this difficult time.

Fire Safety in Maryland

House fires continue to be a major public safety concern, particularly in the winter months when heating equipment and electrical usage increase. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), home fires account for a significant portion of fire-related fatalities in the United States, with common causes including faulty wiring, unattended cooking, and heating appliance malfunctions.

In Maryland, officials recommend that homeowners and renters take proactive steps to reduce fire risks by:

  • Installing and testing smoke alarms regularly
  • Having an emergency escape plan with at least two exit routes
  • Avoiding overloaded electrical outlets and checking for frayed cords
  • Keeping flammable materials away from heating sources

In the wake of this tragedy, local fire departments encourage residents to review their fire prevention plans and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their loved ones.
