Box Elder County, UT (February 21, 2025) – A tragic accident on Interstate 84 claimed the life of a 48-year-old man Thursday night after he was struck by multiple semi-trucks, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred around 7:47 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-84. Authorities reported that the victim had been walking into town after his vehicle broke down a few miles away. Before the fatal collision, the man approached a trooper at the scene of a separate jackknifed semi-truck and asked for a ride. The trooper agreed and instructed him to wait in his car, but the man instead continued on foot.
As he walked along the highway near milepost 4, the driver of a semi-truck spotted him at the last second and attempted to swerve. The side-view mirror of the truck struck the pedestrian, throwing him to the ground. A second semi following closely behind was unable to stop in time and also struck the man, resulting in fatal injuries.
