Pompano Beach, FL (February 21, 2025) – A 50-year-old Fort Lauderdale man died early Thursday morning following a motorcycle crash on I-95 northbound, just north of Atlantic Blvd. The accident led to a six-hour road closure as authorities investigated the scene.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 12:40 a.m. The victim was riding a 2012 Kawasaki motorcycle behind a 2024 Kia Soul, driven by a 29-year-old man from Lighthouse Point. Officials say the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to stop, slow down, or take evasive action before colliding with the rear of the Kia.
The impact caused the Kawasaki to come to rest on its side along the outside shoulder, while the Kia remained on the right paved shoulder, both facing north. Emergency responders transported the motorcyclist to Broward North Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Kia was not reported to have any injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the victim during this difficult time.
Motorcycle Accidents in Florida
Florida’s highways are frequently traveled by motorcyclists, but high-speed crashes can be especially dangerous due to the lack of physical protection for riders. Rear-end collisions, such as this incident on I-95, can be devastating when a motorcycle is involved, often leading to severe or fatal injuries.
Common factors in motorcycle crashes include excessive speed, limited reaction time, and reduced visibility at night. Riders are encouraged to exercise caution, maintain safe following distances, and stay aware of surrounding traffic to help prevent collisions.
For those affected by serious motorcycle accidents, seeking medical attention and understanding legal rights are crucial steps toward recovery. Medical expenses, lost wages, and emotional distress can create lasting burdens for victims and their families, making it essential to explore available support options.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a motorcycle accident, help is available. Speaking with a professional can provide guidance on your options and ensure you receive the necessary support.
