Oakland County, MI (February 20, 2025) – A 24-year-old woman from Houston, Texas, was killed Thursday morning in a crash involving a gravel hauler on Interstate 75 in Oakland County, according to Michigan State Police (MSP).
The crash occurred around 6:40 AM, initially shutting down the freeway at Nine Mile before the closure was moved to Eight Mile. MSP reported that the driver of a Jeep Compass lost control of her vehicle and spun into the path of a gravel hauler. The impact pushed the Compass approximately 750 feet before the hauler was able to stop.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and pronounced the woman dead. The driver of the gravel hauler was not injured. Authorities worked to notify the victim’s family and were able to make contact later in the morning. The freeway reopened around noon.
MSP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact law enforcement.
Highway Crashes and Weather-Related Risks in Michigan
I-75 is one of Michigan’s busiest highways, where high speeds and unpredictable road conditions contribute to serious crashes. Losing control of a vehicle—especially in poor weather or on slick roads—can increase the risk of collisions with large commercial vehicles like gravel haulers.
Fatal freeway accidents leave families facing overwhelming emotional and financial hardships. Victims’ loved ones often struggle with funeral costs, medical expenses, and unanswered legal questions following such tragedies.
If you or a loved one has been affected by a serious highway accident, seeking professional guidance can help navigate the legal and financial complexities that often follow.
