Killington, VT (February 18, 2025) – Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene of a two-vehicle crash on US Route 4 near Alpine Drive late Sunday morning. Authorities reported that the collision occurred at approximately 10:58 a.m. and involved a 2023 Toyota Tacoma and a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado.

According to the Vermont State Police, 60-year-old Brian Nolan of Pittsford was attempting to turn left from a parking lot onto US Route 4 when he failed to yield to an eastbound Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 29-year-old Zachary Yashnyk of Farmingdale, NY. As a result, the vehicles collided, with Nolan’s Toyota sustaining significant damage to the driver’s side, while Yashnyk’s Chevrolet sustained minor front-end damage.

Despite the severity of the impact, both drivers were wearing seat belts, and no injuries were reported at the scene. Authorities noted that the crash took place during snowy weather conditions, with roads covered in snow at the time. Vermont State Police troopers from the Rutland Barracks responded to the scene, alongside firefighters from the Killington Fire Department, who assisted with traffic control and vehicle safety measures.

The accident remains under investigation, and authorities urge drivers to exercise caution when traveling in winter conditions.

Car Accidents in Vermont

Car accidents on Vermont roadways, especially in winter conditions, can pose serious risks for drivers. Incidents like the recent crash in Killington highlight the dangers associated with snowy roads and the importance of yielding at intersections. Vermont’s changing weather conditions make it crucial for drivers to remain vigilant, particularly when navigating high-traffic areas such as US Route 4.

Snow-covered roads significantly reduce traction, increasing the likelihood of skidding and longer stopping distances. Drivers are encouraged to reduce speeds, leave extra space between vehicles, and use caution when entering or crossing busy highways. Additionally, proper vehicle maintenance, such as checking tire tread and brake function, can improve safety during winter travel.

In cases where accidents occur due to a failure to yield, as seen in this incident, legal implications may arise. Vermont law requires motorists to yield the right of way when entering a major roadway to prevent collisions. When accidents result in injuries or property damage, those affected may seek legal guidance to understand their rights and options for compensation.
