Woodboro, WI (February 18, 2025) – A tragic two-vehicle collision claimed the life of a 58-year-old Tomahawk man early Tuesday morning on U.S. 8, according to reports from the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Emergency responders, including the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, arrived at the crash site near Spring Creek Rd at approximately 8 a.m. Authorities determined that a GMC Sierra pickup truck traveling westbound crossed the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound Toyota Camry. The driver of the Toyota, who was the sole occupant, suffered fatal injuries. His name has not yet been released pending family notification.
The driver of the GMC, a 53-year-old woman from Abbotsford, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, and officials do not believe alcohol played a role. Emergency medical crews, including a medical helicopter, were dispatched to assist, though it remains unclear whether any victims were airlifted from the scene.
A portion of U.S. 8 remained closed as of 11 a.m. Tuesday as authorities continued their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Our hearts go out to the victim’s family, and we hope for a full recovery for the injured driver.
Head-On Collisions in Wisconsin
Head-on crashes are among the most devastating types of accidents, often resulting in serious injuries or fatalities. These collisions typically occur due to driver distraction, fatigue, impairment, or unsafe passing maneuvers. In Wisconsin, winter road conditions can further contribute to lane departures, increasing the likelihood of severe accidents like the one on U.S. 8.
In cases where a vehicle unexpectedly crosses the center line, determining the cause is crucial. Investigators often examine factors such as road conditions, driver health, and mechanical failures. Survivors and families of victims may also seek legal guidance to understand their rights following such tragic incidents.
While authorities continue to investigate this crash, drivers are reminded to remain alert, avoid distractions, and exercise caution—especially on rural highways where unexpected hazards can arise.
