Orange County, FL (February 18, 2025) – A fatal head-on collision late Monday night claimed the life of a woman and left two others seriously injured in Pine Hills, leading to the closure of Hiawassee Road for several hours.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the crash occurred around 11:21 p.m. near Nestor Street. Reports indicate that the driver of a 2022 Toyota RAV-4 attempted to make a left turn onto Nestor Street and entered the path of an oncoming 2025 Buick Enclave, resulting in a violent head-on collision.
The impact forced the Buick off the road and into a tree. Emergency responders arrived to find the driver of the Buick, a 50-year-old woman from Orlando, deceased at the scene. Authorities noted that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Two others sustained significant injuries. The 54-year-old driver of the Toyota and a 54-year-old passenger from the Buick were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment. Their current conditions remain unknown.
Following the crash, authorities advised drivers to seek alternate routes as Hiawassee Road remained closed for several hours to allow for investigation and roadway clearance.
FHP is continuing its investigation into the circumstances of the crash, including traffic conditions and driver actions leading up to the collision.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased victim, and we hope for a full recovery for those injured.
Head-On Collisions in Florida
Head-on crashes are among the most dangerous types of accidents, often leading to severe injuries or fatalities due to the high-impact nature of these collisions. In areas like Pine Hills, where multiple lanes of traffic and frequent turns occur, misjudging the speed or distance of oncoming vehicles can have devastating consequences.
Seatbelt use plays a crucial role in accident survivability. Studies show that failing to wear a seatbelt significantly increases the risk of fatal injuries in high-impact crashes. While Florida law requires seatbelt use for drivers and front-seat passengers, compliance remains a critical factor in roadway safety.
For victims and their families, the aftermath of a serious crash can be overwhelming, leading to financial strain, emotional distress, and long-term recovery challenges. Understanding legal rights and seeking professional guidance can be vital steps in addressing the impact of such tragic incidents.
