The Risks of Pedestrian Accidents in Parking Lots
Parking lots, like the one at Walmart in Gaffney, can be deceptively dangerous for both pedestrians and drivers. Unlike roadways, parking lots lack consistent traffic signals, crosswalks, and clear right-of-way indicators, increasing the likelihood of pedestrian accidents.
Studies show that low-speed pedestrian crashes in parking lots can still result in severe injuries or fatalities, especially when large vehicles such as SUVs are involved. Blind spots, distracted driving, and reduced visibility at night further contribute to these types of incidents.
To improve parking lot safety, drivers should reduce speed, remain alert for pedestrians, and avoid distractions such as mobile phone use. Pedestrians should also be cautious when walking between parked cars, remain visible to drivers, and stay within designated walkways whenever possible.
Families of pedestrian accident victims may have legal options to seek compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, and other damages. Understanding these rights is essential for those affected by a tragic loss.
