Phelps County, MO (February 16, 2025) – A rear-end collision on eastbound Interstate 44 at mile marker 190.7 Saturday night resulted in multiple injuries, including three children.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 9:33 p.m. when a 2015 Chrysler Town & Country, driven by a 33-year-old female from Cuba, MO, slowed for traffic ahead. A 2003 Ford F-150, operated by a 20-year-old female from Cuba, MO, was also traveling eastbound and was unable to stop in time, striking the rear of the Chrysler.

Emergency responders, including the St. James Ambulance District, arrived at the scene to assist the injured. The driver of the Chrysler Town & Country sustained minor injuries, along with three juvenile occupants—two girls, ages 7 and 8, and an 11-year-old boy. All four were transported to Phelps Health in Rolla for further treatment. The driver of the Ford F-150 was not reported as injured.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident. Further details may be released as the investigation progresses. Our thoughts are with those affected by this incident.

Rear-End Collisions in Missouri

Rear-end collisions are among the most common types of vehicle accidents on Missouri highways, especially in areas with high traffic volume like Interstate 44. These accidents often occur due to distracted driving, following too closely, or failing to adjust to sudden traffic slowdowns.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, rear-end crashes can lead to significant injuries, particularly for passengers in the impacted vehicle. Whiplash, head injuries, and other trauma are common consequences of such collisions. Drivers are encouraged to maintain a safe following distance and remain attentive to changing road conditions to help prevent these incidents.

For individuals injured in rear-end crashes, seeking prompt medical care and understanding legal rights can be essential steps in recovery.
