St. Louis, MO (February 14, 2025) – A multi-vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate 70 west of Hanley Road left two people seriously injured on Thursday afternoon.
Emergency responders were quick to the scene, providing care to the injured victims. The accident occurred at approximately 2:00 p.m. and involved three vehicles: a 2023 Jeep Compass, a 2008 Chevrolet 1500, and a 2021 Peterbilt 389. Authorities reported that the crash happened when the Chevrolet 1500 attempted to merge from Interstate 170 northbound onto I-70 eastbound. The Jeep Compass, traveling behind the Chevrolet in the same lane, applied its brakes but was unable to stop in time, colliding with the rear of the Chevrolet. The impact caused the Jeep Compass to veer off the right side of the roadway, where it struck a traffic guardrail.
First responders, including medics from Pattonville Fire and EMS, worked to assist those suffering from injuries after the collision. The 70-year-old male driver of the Chevrolet 1500 and a 62-year-old female occupant both sustained serious injuries. They were transported to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis for emergency treatment.
Due to the force of the crash, the Chevrolet 1500 skidded, rotated counterclockwise, and slid underneath the towed unit of the Peterbilt 389, which was traveling in another lane. The impact caused additional damage to the Chevrolet before all vehicles came to a stop.
Both the Jeep Compass and Chevrolet 1500 sustained total damage and were towed from the scene by Terry’s Towing. The Peterbilt was also removed from the roadway. Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash to determine further details regarding the sequence of events.
Our thoughts are with those injured in this accident, and we wish them a full recovery.
