St. Charles, MO (February 14, 2025) – A multi-vehicle collision occurred on westbound Interstate 70 near Mid Rivers early Wednesday morning, resulting in injuries and significant roadway disruption.
Emergency responders were quick to the scene, providing care to the injured victims. The crash, reported at approximately 10:20 a.m., involved five vehicles, including a 2019 Nissan Sentra, a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, a 2012 Autocar Xpeditor, a 2024 Ford F-250, and a 2020 Freightliner. The crash reportedly began when the Nissan Sentra lost control of the icy roadway, setting off a chain reaction of collisions involving the other vehicles.
First responders, including paramedics from the St. Charles County Ambulance District, transported multiple injured individuals to local hospitals. A 26-year-old female driver of the Nissan Sentra, along with a 60-year-old female passenger and a 2-year-old juvenile occupant, sustained injuries and were transported to St. Joe West Hospital. Additionally, a 27-year-old male driver of the Chevrolet Malibu, a 50-year-old male driver of the Autocar Xpeditor, a 33-year-old male occupant from a separate vehicle, and a 56-year-old male driver of the Freightliner sustained minor injuries and were taken to Barnes St. Peters Hospital.
Authorities reported that the initial slide of the Nissan Sentra on the icy roadway led to Vehicle #2, the Autocar Xpeditor, braking in an attempt to avoid a collision. This maneuver caused the vehicle to face the wrong direction before being struck by a Freightliner. Other vehicles were subsequently involved in the crash, including a Ford F-250 that slid and struck a median wall while trying to avoid the crash.
All involved vehicles sustained varying levels of damage, with multiple vehicles requiring towing services. The accident remains under investigation as officials work to determine further details regarding the icy conditions and sequence of events.

Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Missouri
Missouri’s unpredictable weather, including ice and snow, often contributes to hazardous driving conditions, leading to multi-vehicle collisions. Crashes involving multiple vehicles can be particularly dangerous due to the increased risk of secondary impacts, reduced maneuverability, and the difficulty emergency responders face in quickly accessing victims.
According to data from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), icy roads account for a significant number of winter-weather-related accidents each year. Drivers are urged to exercise caution by reducing speed, maintaining extra following distance, and using winter-ready tires to improve traction.
In multi-vehicle crashes, determining liability can be complex, especially when road conditions and driver actions contribute to the accident. Drivers involved in these crashes should document the scene, seek medical attention, and contact their insurance providers as soon as possible.
For those injured in such accidents, seeking medical treatment is the first priority. Additionally, understanding insurance coverage and legal rights can be crucial in ensuring fair compensation for damages and injuries sustained.
