Palmyra, MO (February 13, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash on Missouri Route 168 left two drivers injured Wednesday afternoon after icy road conditions caused one vehicle to slide into oncoming traffic. The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m., approximately 1.5 miles east of Palmyra.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2017 Ford F-150 driven by a 68-year-old woman from Palmyra lost control on an ice-covered roadway. The truck crossed the centerline and was struck by a westbound 2013 Toyota Camry, driven by a 50-year-old man, also from Palmyra.
Emergency responders, including the Marion County Ambulance Service and the Palmyra Fire Department, arrived at the scene to assist. The driver of the Camry suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL, while the driver of the Ford sustained injuries and was taken to Hannibal Regional Hospital for treatment. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were towed from the scene.
Officials continue to investigate the accident and are reminding drivers to exercise caution during winter weather conditions.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims, and we hope for their full recovery.
Ice-Related Crashes in Missouri
Winter driving can be extremely hazardous, particularly when icy road conditions contribute to loss of control, as seen in the recent crash on MO-168. Ice-covered roads reduce traction, making it difficult for drivers to maintain control, stop in time, or avoid obstacles. These conditions are especially dangerous on highways and rural roads, where vehicles travel at higher speeds.
Missouri drivers are encouraged to take extra precautions during winter weather by reducing speed, increasing following distances, and avoiding sudden braking or steering movements. Even experienced drivers can struggle with icy conditions, making it critical to stay alert and prepared.
For individuals injured in weather-related accidents, medical expenses, vehicle repairs, and lost wages can create unexpected financial burdens. Seeking professional assistance can help accident victims understand their legal options and obtain the support they need for recovery.
