Chillicothe, MO (February 13, 2025) – A collision involving two commercial trucks on US 36 left one driver injured early Wednesday morning. The crash occurred around 8:00 a.m. approximately one mile east of Chillicothe in Livingston County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2020 Volvo VNL760 and a 2011 Freightliner M2 were both traveling eastbound in the driving lane when the Freightliner, driven by a 55-year-old man from Chillicothe, began slowing for traffic ahead. The Volvo, driven by a 29-year-old man from Ontario, Canada, failed to stop in time and struck the rear of the Freightliner.
The impact caused the Freightliner to veer off the north side of the roadway, cross the median, and come to rest partially in the westbound lanes. Meanwhile, the Volvo came to a stop on the shoulder of eastbound US 36. The driver of the Freightliner sustained injuries and was transported to Hedrick Medical Center by Chillicothe EMS for treatment. No other injuries were reported.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash to determine if additional factors contributed to the collision. The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by local law enforcement agencies.
Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we hope for a full recovery.
Truck Accidents in Missouri
Truck accidents, like the recent crash on US 36, often result in significant property damage and injuries. Commercial vehicles, due to their size and weight, require increased stopping distances and careful maneuvering. Rear-end collisions involving large trucks are particularly dangerous, as they can push smaller vehicles off the roadway or into oncoming traffic.
Missouri highways experience a high volume of commercial truck traffic, making it essential for all drivers to remain vigilant. Common causes of rear-end truck accidents include driver inattention, following too closely, and sudden traffic slowdowns. In many cases, these accidents can be prevented by maintaining proper following distances and anticipating traffic flow changes.
For individuals involved in truck accidents, understanding their legal rights is crucial. Injured drivers may face medical expenses, vehicle repair costs, and lost wages. Seeking professional assistance can help accident victims determine liability and secure compensation for their damages.
