Redford Twp, MI (February 13, 2025) – Two people were injured in a crash following a police pursuit in Redford Township on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place at approximately 10:15 a.m. when officers from the Redford Township Police Department attempted to stop a Lexus sedan for a traffic violation near Grand River Avenue and 7 Mile Road. However, the driver failed to comply and fled the scene, initiating a brief pursuit.
A few blocks into the chase, the Lexus ran a red light at the intersection of eastbound Grand River Avenue and southbound Telegraph Road, where it collided with a white Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling through the intersection.
Emergency responders arrived quickly to provide aid, and both drivers were transported to a Metro Detroit hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Lexus was identified as a 51-year-old woman from Detroit, while the driver of the Jeep was a 35-year-old man from Redford Township.
Authorities confirmed that the Redford Township patrol vehicle was not involved in the collision itself. The Detroit Police Department has taken over the investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that the Lexus driver did not have a valid driver’s license, and alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash.
Our thoughts are with those injured, and we wish them a full recovery.
Police Chase Accidents in Michigan
High-speed chases can be dangerous for both those involved and innocent bystanders. When a suspect flees from law enforcement, the risk of serious injury or fatal crashes increases significantly, especially in busy intersections like Grand River Avenue and Telegraph Road.
Michigan law requires officers to balance public safety with enforcement actions during pursuits. While police have protocols in place to minimize risks, fleeing drivers often create unpredictable hazards that endanger others on the road.
Red-light violations, excessive speed, and impaired driving are common factors in pursuit-related accidents. When these crashes occur, they can leave victims facing medical expenses, vehicle damage, and emotional distress.
For those injured in police chase accidents, seeking medical attention and understanding legal rights is crucial. If you or a loved one has been involved in a similar incident, it’s important to know that resources are available to help navigate the recovery process.
Staying alert, obeying traffic laws, and making responsible driving choices can prevent unnecessary tragedies on Michigan’s roadways.
