Warwick, RI (February 12, 2025) – A juvenile sustained serious injuries after his motorized mini-bike collided with a car on Post Road in Warwick on Tuesday night.
According to Warwick Police, officers responded to the area near 840 Post Road around 9:50 p.m. and found the juvenile lying in the southbound lane with severe injuries. Emergency responders quickly provided medical aid before transporting the injured rider to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence for further treatment.
Authorities reported that the driver of the car, a 31-year-old man, remained at the scene and was uninjured.
An initial investigation by the Warwick Police Department’s accident reconstruction team determined that the crash occurred as the driver of the car was heading north on Post Road after stopping for a red light. As he approached the truck route entrance to Walmart, three juveniles on mini-bikes—both gas and electric-powered—entered Post Road against the one-way entrance, attempting to turn left in front of his vehicle.
The car struck the first mini-bike, causing the juvenile to be thrown into the southbound lane. Police confirmed that the juvenile was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Authorities also stated that speed was not a factor for the driver of the car.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing. Our thoughts are with the injured juvenile, and we hope for a full recovery.
Mini-Bike and Motorized Vehicle Safety in Rhode Island
Collisions involving mini-bikes and other motorized vehicles can be particularly dangerous due to the lack of protective barriers for riders. Accidents like the one on Post Road highlight the importance of helmet use and adherence to traffic laws to prevent serious injuries.
According to the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, motorcycle and mini-bike accidents account for a significant number of roadway injuries each year. Helmets are a crucial safety measure that can reduce the severity of head injuries in crashes. Additionally, operating mini-bikes or similar vehicles on public roads without proper safety precautions poses increased risks to riders and other motorists.
For those injured in roadway accidents, seeking immediate medical care is essential. Additionally, understanding legal rights and available compensation options can help victims and their families navigate the recovery process. Consulting with a professional may provide valuable guidance.
