Browning, MT (February 10, 2025) – A tragic two-vehicle crash east of Browning claimed the lives of two local women on Saturday, according to the Glacier County Sheriff’s Office.
The fatal collision occurred at mile marker 230.4 on Highway 2 Blackfoot Cutoff when 25-year-old Jahly Braverock, driving a Chevrolet Silverado, attempted to pass a snowplow and another vehicle while traveling westbound. During the maneuver, Braverock crossed into the eastbound lanes and collided head-on with a Ford Explorer.
Following the impact, Braverock’s vehicle crossed back into the westbound lanes before veering off the right side of the road. The driver of the Ford Explorer, identified as 41-year-old Rachel Augare of Browning, was partially ejected from her vehicle due to the force of the crash.
Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene, but both Braverock and Augare were pronounced dead on arrival. No other injuries were reported, and the identities of any additional occupants, if present, have not been released.
The crash remains under investigation by local authorities, who are working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the accident. Our hearts go out to the families and friends of both victims during this incredibly difficult time.
Head-on Collisions in Montana
Head-on collisions, like the devastating crash that occurred on Highway 2 near Browning, are among the most severe types of accidents, often resulting in serious injuries or fatalities. These accidents typically occur when a vehicle crosses the center line into oncoming traffic, as seen in this case when the driver attempted to pass in unsafe conditions.
Highway 2 is a vital route through Montana, frequently traveled by local residents and commercial vehicles, including snow plows during the winter months. Passing maneuvers on two-lane highways can be particularly dangerous, especially when visibility is limited, or road conditions are affected by snow and ice. Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution when overtaking slower-moving vehicles, ensuring there is ample space and a clear line of sight before attempting to pass.
This tragic incident also highlights the importance of proper seatbelt use, as partial ejections can significantly increase the likelihood of fatal injuries. While the specifics of seatbelt usage in this crash remain unclear, it underscores the need for all occupants to be properly restrained.
