San Benito, TX (February 9, 2025) – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred early Sunday morning on FM 1846 near County Road 578 in San Benito.
At approximately 3:03 a.m., troopers responded to reports of a bicyclist who had been struck by a vehicle. A preliminary investigation revealed that a male bicyclist was traveling northbound on FM 1846 when a vehicle, also heading northbound, struck him from behind. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without stopping to render aid.
Tragically, the bicyclist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
DPS reports that the suspect’s vehicle is believed to be a Ford with chrome trimming and noticeable damage to the front right side. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the vehicle or the driver involved to come forward as the investigation continues.
