Jonesboro, AR (February 8, 2025) – A devastating head-on collision on US Highway 63 in Craighead County claimed the lives of three individuals and left five others injured early Thursday morning.
According to authorities, the accident occurred at approximately 5:40 a.m. when a 2005 Dodge Dakota traveling south on the highway collided head-on with a 2016 Ford Transit heading north. The impact occurred on the northbound fog line, resulting in severe damage to both vehicles. Emergency responders from Jonesboro Fire and Rescue, along with paramedics, arrived swiftly to provide aid to the injured and assess the tragic scene.
Officials confirmed that John Leroy Lewis, 58, of Mountain Home, AR, the driver of the Dodge Dakota, was fatally injured in the crash. Two occupants of the Ford Transit, David Lee VanWinkle, 63, of Winona, MO, and Timothy Collin Foote, 62, of West Burlington, IA, also lost their lives.
Among the injured were Robert Joseph Harris, 35, of Greentop, MO, Donald Zachary Williams, 44, of Maynard, AR, David Michael Reading Jr., 29, of St. Louis, MO, Jimmy Lee McMullen, 35, of Collinsville, OK, and Garrett William Sorrell, 34, of Gamaliel, AR. All injured individuals were transported to St. Bernard’s Medical Center and NEA Baptist Hospital for treatment.
