Valley Twp, PA (February 6, 2025) – A woman tragically lost her life in a two-vehicle collision on I-80 in Montour County early Thursday morning.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) in Milton, the crash occurred at mile marker 225 in Valley Township. Upon arrival, troopers discovered that a Dodge Ram and a tractor trailer had been involved in the collision.

Authorities reported that the driver of the Dodge Ram, identified as Marlene Butters of Bloomsburg, veered out of the westbound travel lane for unknown reasons. Her vehicle crossed the median and entered the eastbound lane of I-80, where it collided with an oncoming tractor trailer.

Butters was ejected from her vehicle upon impact and sadly succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The condition of the tractor trailer driver has not been disclosed, and it is unclear if any additional injuries were sustained.

PSP Milton is actively investigating the cause of the crash to determine the factors that led to this tragic incident.

Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Marlene Butters during this difficult time.

Fatal Truck Accidents in Pennsylvania

Accidents involving passenger vehicles and large trucks, such as tractor trailers, often have devastating outcomes, especially on high-speed highways like I-80. Due to the size and weight of commercial trucks, collisions with smaller vehicles can result in severe injuries or fatalities for those in the passenger vehicles.

In Pennsylvania, highways like I-80 are common sites for serious crashes due to factors such as driver fatigue, distracted driving, and sudden lane changes. When vehicles cross medians into oncoming traffic, as seen in this tragic accident, the results are often catastrophic.

Families affected by fatal accidents may have legal options to seek compensation for wrongful death, covering funeral expenses, loss of income, and emotional suffering. It is important to consult with legal professionals to understand the rights and options available in the aftermath of such incidents.

Truck drivers and commercial vehicle companies are held to strict safety regulations to minimize the risk of accidents. However, even when no fault is immediately apparent, thorough investigations are essential to determine whether road conditions, mechanical failures, or other factors contributed to the crash.

If you or a loved one has been involved in a serious truck accident, it is crucial to seek legal and professional support to navigate the complex aftermath.
