Stanley, WI (February 2, 2025) – A fatal crash involving a Chippewa County Highway Department truck occurred early Sunday morning on WIS 29 Eastbound at County Rd H near Stanley.
According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, the crash happened around 4:00 a.m. while a highway department truck was performing winter maintenance. A separate vehicle, driven by a 19-year-old from Withee, Wisconsin, collided with the truck from behind. Tragically, the 19-year-old driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that alcohol use was a factor in the crash, according to their preliminary findings. The driver of the highway department truck was not injured in the collision.
State Patrol officials have not released the names of those involved as the investigation remains ongoing. Road conditions and other potential contributing factors are also being reviewed as part of the inquiry.
