Mount Carmel, PA (January 5, 2024) – A Saturday morning fire at the Mount Carmel Senior Living Community in Northumberland County resulted in injuries to 20 individuals and the displacement of 12 residents. The multi-alarm fire broke out just before 8:00 AM, prompting an extensive response from local emergency crews and law enforcement.
According to authorities, five first responders, 12 residents, and three staff members were transported to area hospitals for evaluation. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported. Emergency personnel worked alongside nursing home staff to evacuate the entire building, ensuring the safety of all occupants.
The fire was contained to the senior living area of the facility and extinguished within an hour. Despite this rapid response, the affected area sustained smoke, fire, and water damage. Efforts are underway to find temporary housing for the displaced residents, with the nursing home coordinating with nearby facilities to secure accommodations.
A Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal is conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
