Nodaway County, MO (January 31, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision in Nodaway County resulted in injuries and road closures on Thursday morning. The crash occurred around 10:39 a.m. at the intersection of US-71 and RT-U, approximately four miles west of Arkoe.

According to reports, an 81-year-old woman from Stanberry, driving a 2019 Ford Ranger, was eastbound in the median crossover when she attempted to cross US-71. During this maneuver, her vehicle was struck on the passenger side by a northbound 2002 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 45-year-old woman from Maryville.

Emergency responders, including Nodaway County EMS, arrived quickly to assist. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado sustained injuries and was transported to Mosaic in Maryville for medical treatment. Authorities confirmed that both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.

The Chevrolet Silverado sustained total damage and was towed by Kizer’s Towing, while the Ford Ranger sustained moderate damage and was towed by Shell’s Towing. Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop H, along with assistance from Sergeant T.B. Ziegler and the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Department conducted the initial investigation.

Officials continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Our thoughts are with those affected, and we wish the injured driver a full recovery.

Intersection Collisions in Missouri

Intersections and highway crossovers present a high risk for crashes, particularly when vehicles attempt to cross lanes of fast-moving traffic. Failure to yield, misjudging oncoming traffic speeds, and limited visibility are frequent factors contributing to serious collisions at these locations.

In Missouri, data from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) highlights intersection-related crashes as a major cause of roadway injuries and fatalities. Many of these accidents occur on rural highways, where crossovers and stop-controlled intersections require drivers to make critical judgments about crossing safely.

For those involved in similar incidents, seeking medical evaluation, documenting the crash, and understanding legal options are essential steps toward recovery.
