Fort Worth, TX (January 31, 2025) – A crash involving a Fort Worth Fire Department fire engine and an SUV resulted in one person being hospitalized Thursday morning. The accident occurred at approximately 11:00 AM at the intersection of West Rosedale Street and South Henderson Street.

According to the Fort Worth Fire Department (FWFD), Engine 8 was responding to a structure fire in the 2900 block of Montgomery Street when it collided with an SUV at the intersection. Four firefighters were inside the fire engine at the time of the crash, while the SUV was occupied by a single driver.

Following the impact, firefighters from Engine 8 exited their damaged vehicle and provided immediate first aid to the driver of the SUV. The injured driver was transported to a local hospital in serious condition, FWFD officials confirmed.

The four firefighters involved in the crash were also taken to a hospital for evaluation but have since been released. The Fort Worth Fire Department expressed its support for the injured driver and their family during this difficult time.

The Fort Worth Police Department and FWFD are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Fire Engine Accidents in Texas

Emergency vehicles such as fire engines, ambulances, and police cruisers operate under high-speed, high-risk conditions while responding to emergencies. Despite having the right of way in many situations, these vehicles are still vulnerable to collisions at busy intersections.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), emergency vehicle accidents often occur when civilian drivers fail to yield, misjudge distances, or do not hear sirens due to traffic noise or distractions. Additionally, high speeds and large vehicle sizes increase the impact force of these crashes, often leading to severe injuries.

Intersections like W Rosedale St and S Henderson St are particularly prone to accidents due to high traffic volume and frequent emergency vehicle crossings. Drivers are reminded to remain aware of their surroundings, pull over when emergency vehicles approach, and avoid distracted driving to help reduce the likelihood of such collisions.

If you or a loved one has been involved in an accident with an emergency vehicle, seeking medical attention and legal guidance is essential. Understanding your rights can help ensure fair compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages resulting from the crash.
