Oldham County, TX (January 2, 2025) – A fatal head-on collision occurred on New Year’s Day on I-40 in Oldham County, claiming the life of one person and leaving another seriously injured, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
At approximately 12:21 p.m., 18-year-old Asaph Mecklenburg of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, was driving a 2013 Hyundai Veloster eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-40. The wrong-way driving resulted in a head-on collision with a 2023 Ford Bronco traveling west.
DPS officials reported that Mecklenburg was pronounced dead at the scene due to the injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the Bronco was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. No further details about the condition of the injured driver have been released at this time.
