Altadena, CA (January 31, 2025) – A multi-vehicle collision, including a motorcycle, occurred Wednesday evening on eastbound State Route 134 (SR-134) near the I-210 interchange, resulting in injuries and significant traffic delays.

According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash was reported at approximately 5:30 p.m. and involved at least four vehicles, including a Tesla, a Hyundai, a Ford Focus, and a black motorcycle. Initial reports indicate that the motorcycle brushed against a Chevrolet Silverado before crashing. The rider sustained moderate injuries but was reported to be alert and conscious at the scene.

The accident blocked multiple lanes, including the HOV (carpool) and No. 1 and 2 lanes, causing heavy congestion in the area. Emergency responders, including Pasadena Fire Department and CHP, arrived on the scene to provide medical aid and clear the roadway. Monterey Tow was dispatched to remove the damaged motorcycle.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading to the crash.

Our thoughts are with the injured rider and all those affected, and we hope for a full and speedy recovery.

Motorcycle Accidents in California

Motorcycle crashes often result in severe injuries due to the lack of protective barriers for riders. In high-traffic areas like the SR-134/I-210 corridor, motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable to accidents caused by sudden lane changes, distracted drivers, and failure to yield.

Lane-sharing and close vehicle interactions, as seen in this incident, can contribute to crashes when drivers fail to check blind spots or misjudge distances. Even minor contact between a motorcycle and a larger vehicle can lead to a loss of control and serious injuries.

For motorcyclists, wearing proper protective gear, staying visible, and practicing defensive riding techniques are crucial for reducing risks on the road. Drivers of passenger vehicles should always remain alert, check mirrors and blind spots, and give motorcycles ample space when changing lanes.
