Hopewell, VA (January 30, 2025) – Emergency crews responded to a serious collision involving a commercial vehicle and a train on Thursday at 100 Industrial Street.
Hopewell Fire and Rescue Engine 1 arrived on the scene and found the overturned commercial vehicle releasing a CO2 vapor cloud. Hazmat teams were deployed to manage the hazardous materials, while firefighters worked to secure the area. The driver of the vehicle was successfully extricated and received medical attention.
Battalion 2 assumed command of the incident as crews continued containment efforts and investigated the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials have not released details on additional injuries or the extent of the hazmat risk.
