St. Louis, MO (January 30, 2025) – A collision involving two vehicles early Thursday morning on westbound Interstate 70 resulted in injuries and significant vehicle damage.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 6:10 a.m. just west of Missouri 180. Reports indicate that a 47-year-old man from Caseyville, Illinois, was driving a 2002 Honda Civic too fast for the roadway conditions, which caused his vehicle to hydroplane and strike a guardrail on the right shoulder. The Civic then re-entered the roadway and crashed into the rear of a 2023 Buick Encore driven by a 29-year-old woman from St. Louis. The impact caused the Buick to collide with the concrete median.

Emergency responders from the Pattonville Fire Protection District arrived at the scene and transported the Buick’s driver and her 6-year-old male passenger to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for treatment of injuries. The driver of the Civic was not reported to have sustained injuries.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene by Bolins Towing. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the crash.

We wish the injured victims a full and speedy recovery.

Weather-Related Crashes in Missouri

Adverse weather conditions, such as rain and icy roads, often contribute to crashes across Missouri highways, particularly when drivers fail to adjust their speed accordingly. Hydroplaning, which occurs when a vehicle’s tires lose traction on a wet surface, is a major hazard during rainy or slick conditions.

Incidents like this highlight the importance of cautious driving in poor weather. Motorists should reduce their speed, increase their following distance, and ensure their tires are properly maintained to avoid hydroplaning. Missouri law requires drivers to operate their vehicles at speeds appropriate for current conditions, meaning excessive speed—even if within the posted limit—can still be considered negligent in hazardous weather.

For victims injured in weather-related accidents, understanding legal options is crucial. Medical expenses, vehicle repairs, and insurance claims can become overwhelming, making it essential to seek guidance on the best course of action.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a crash caused by hazardous road conditions, speaking with a knowledgeable professional can help you explore your options for recovery.
