San Angelo, TX (January 30, 2025) – A Concho Valley Transit (CVT) bus collided with a pickup truck at the intersection of East 19th Street and Armstrong Street on Wednesday afternoon, leaving one person injured.
According to San Angelo Police Officer D. Bilyeu, there were conflicting accounts of how the crash occurred. One account suggested that the bus was traveling eastbound when it ran a red light and struck the pickup truck, which had a green light and was traveling northbound. Another report stated that the bus was making a left turn from Armstrong Street onto 19th Street and turned in front of the red pickup truck.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene and transported a passenger from the pickup truck to Shannon Medical Center for treatment. The CVT driver, who was the only occupant of the bus, was uninjured.
Authorities have determined that the CVT bus was the at-fault vehicle in the crash. Investigators will review footage from the bus’s on-board cameras before issuing any citations.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim, and we wish them a full recovery.
Public Transit Accidents in Texas
Public transportation plays a vital role in communities across Texas, but accidents involving transit buses can result in significant injuries and disruptions. Due to their size and frequent stops, buses pose a unique risk when involved in collisions with smaller passenger vehicles.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation, intersection-related crashes involving transit vehicles often occur due to driver misjudgments, signal violations, or miscommunication between motorists. In some cases, conflicting eyewitness accounts make determining fault more challenging, necessitating additional evidence such as traffic camera footage or on-board surveillance.
For those injured in a public transit crash, seeking medical attention should always be the first priority. Additionally, gathering evidence, including accident reports, witness statements, and vehicle camera footage, can be crucial when pursuing compensation for injuries and damages. Understanding one’s legal rights can help ensure fair treatment when dealing with insurance claims or potential liability disputes.
