St. Louis, MO (January 29, 2025) – Two people were injured in a collision on eastbound Interstate 255 at Interstate 55 Monday evening, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports.
The crash occurred at approximately 6:42 p.m. when a 2012 Ford Fusion, driven by a 28-year-old woman from St. Charles, MO, was stopped in lanes 1 and 2 after being involved in a prior accident. A 2019 Nissan Sentra, driven by a 58-year-old man from Dupo, IL, was traveling eastbound in lane 1 and failed to see the stopped vehicle. As a result, the front of the Nissan struck the rear of the Ford, pushing it off the roadway and into the concrete median.
Emergency responders from the Mehlville Fire Protection District arrived at the scene and transported both drivers to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for treatment. The female driver sustained minor injuries, while the male driver suffered moderate injuries.
Both vehicles sustained total damage and were towed from the scene by Miners Towing. The crash remains under investigation.
We extend our thoughts to those injured and hope for their full recovery.
Rear-End Collisions in Missouri
Rear-end crashes are among the most common types of accidents on Missouri roadways, often occurring due to driver inattention, following too closely, or failing to recognize stopped traffic ahead. On high-speed roadways like I-255 and I-55, these collisions can be especially dangerous, leading to severe vehicle damage and injuries.
Missouri law requires drivers to maintain a safe following distance to avoid rear-end collisions. In cases where a vehicle is disabled or stopped in an active lane, it is critical for other drivers to stay alert and adjust speed accordingly. These crashes highlight the importance of defensive driving, especially in congested or high-traffic areas.
Victims of rear-end accidents may face medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, and lost wages due to their injuries. Understanding legal options can help those affected seek compensation and the resources needed for recovery.
If you or a loved one has been involved in a rear-end collision, you may have options for support. Speaking with knowledgeable professionals can help you navigate the next steps in your recovery.
