Lancaster, WI (January 28, 2025) – A Prairie du Chien woman suffered serious injuries and had to be extricated from her vehicle following a crash south of Lancaster on Saturday morning, according to Grant County Sheriff Craig Reukauf.
The accident was reported at approximately 7 a.m. at Stage Rd and Aupperle Rd. Authorities stated that the 61-year-old woman, unfamiliar with the area, braked too late at a stop sign and drove into the path of a southbound truck hauling an empty trailer.
The impact caused both vehicles to veer off the roadway, crashing through a barbed-wire fence before coming to rest in a nearby field. Emergency responders were quick to the scene, providing care to the injured victims. The woman was trapped inside her Jeep Cherokee and had to be extricated before being transported to Grant Regional Health Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
A 36-year-old passenger in the Jeep suffered minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital. The driver of the truck, a 67-year-old Lancaster man, was uninjured but was evaluated by paramedics at the scene.
Officials confirmed that the woman was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign. The crash remains under investigation. Our thoughts are with those affected, and we hope for a full recovery.
Intersection Accidents in Wisconsin
Accidents at intersections, particularly those involving stop signs, are a common cause of serious injuries in Wisconsin. Rural intersections like Stage Rd and Aupperle Rd can pose risks due to limited visibility, driver unfamiliarity with the area, and varying road conditions.
Failing to yield or stopping too late at an intersection can lead to dangerous collisions, particularly when larger vehicles such as trucks are involved. Victims in these types of crashes often suffer significant injuries, leading to costly medical treatments and prolonged recovery periods.
Following an accident, injured individuals should seek immediate medical attention, document the crash details, and consider their legal options if another party’s negligence contributed to the collision.
