Lake Elsinore, CA (January 28, 2025) – A tragic accident involving a pickup truck and a sedan left one man dead and two others injured Sunday night near Lake Elsinore. The collision occurred just before 9:30 p.m. on the northbound lanes of Interstate 15, just south of Central Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
CHP Officer Mike Lassig reported that a 2012 Toyota Scion TC, driven by a 54-year-old woman from Hayward, lost control on the rain-slicked roadway. The vehicle spun out and was struck on its right side by a Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by a 44-year-old Riverside man who was traveling a short distance behind the Toyota.
Both vehicles came to a stop on the east shoulder of the roadway. Emergency responders, including paramedics from Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department, arrived quickly at the scene.
Tragically, the right front passenger of the Scion, identified only as a 52-year-old man from Lake Elsinore, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Scion suffered major but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar for treatment. The front passenger of the Ford F-150 also sustained moderate injuries and was taken to the same hospital for care. The pickup truck’s driver was not injured in the crash.
The identity of the deceased victim has been withheld pending notification of next of kin. The collision remains under investigation by the CHP, as officers work to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crash.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased victim, and we extend our wishes for a swift recovery to those injured.
Wet Weather Driving Risks in California
Rainy conditions and wet roads significantly increase the risk of accidents, particularly on high-speed highways like I-15. Reduced traction, hydroplaning, and decreased visibility all contribute to the likelihood of crashes during inclement weather. Drivers are urged to slow down, maintain safe following distances, and ensure their vehicles are equipped with properly maintained tires to reduce risks.
For families affected by fatal or severe accidents, the aftermath can be overwhelming. Beyond the emotional toll, dealing with medical bills, funeral expenses, and insurance claims can be a daunting task. It is crucial to seek guidance and support to navigate these challenges.
