Frankfort, KY (January 27, 2025) – A tragic accident on Sunday morning claimed the life of 16-year-old Joshua Ragland, a Fayette County teenager, after a crash on I-64 West in Franklin County. The Franklin County Coroner identified Ragland as the victim.
According to Kentucky State Police, Ragland was ejected from an SUV after it collided with another car. The SUV then veered off the road and crashed into a rock embankment. Emergency crews transported Ragland to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, but despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries.
The coroner reported that an autopsy for Ragland is scheduled for Monday. The Kentucky State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine the events leading up to the collision.
Our deepest condolences go out to Joshua Ragland’s family and friends during this difficult time.
Rollover and Ejection Accidents in Kentucky
Accidents involving ejections, such as the one reported on I-64 West, often result in severe or fatal injuries due to the lack of protection for occupants thrown from the vehicle. Collisions that lead to secondary impacts, like crashing into a rock embankment, further increase the likelihood of serious outcomes.
In Kentucky, common causes of rollover and ejection accidents include high speeds, loss of control, improper seatbelt use, and collisions with other vehicles. Wearing seatbelts is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of ejection in a crash.
Victims and their families may face significant emotional, physical, and financial challenges in the aftermath of such incidents. Kentucky law allows families to seek compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, and other damages in cases where negligence or fault can be established.
