Payette County, ID (January 28, 2025) – An early morning crash on Interstate 84 south of New Plymouth sent multiple people to the hospital on Sunday, January 26. The collision, which occurred around 5:15 a.m. at milepost 13, involved a 2020 Kia Soul and a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
According to Idaho State Police, an 18-year-old woman from Rexburg was driving the Kia westbound on I-84 with a passenger when the vehicle struck the median barrier. The impact caused the Kia to veer back into the travel lanes, where it was struck by a Jeep driven by a 52-year-old woman from Middleton. Both vehicles overturned and came to rest upside down in the middle of the highway.
Emergency responders airlifted the occupants of the Kia to a local hospital, while the driver of the Jeep was transported via ambulance. Their current conditions have not been disclosed. Authorities confirmed that all individuals involved were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The roadway was closed for approximately five and a half hours as emergency crews worked to clear the scene and conduct an investigation into the cause of the crash. Idaho State Police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding this serious collision.
