Dallas, TX (January 26, 2025) – Two traffic deputies from the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department were injured in an early morning crash on eastbound I-20 at Cockrell Hill Rd on Saturday. The deputies were sitting in their marked squad car with emergency lights activated while assisting at the scene of a major accident when their vehicle was struck from behind by a black Mercedes sedan at approximately 7:20 AM.
Both deputies were transported to a local hospital in stable condition, according to a news release from the department. The driver of the Mercedes, who was found to be driving under the influence, was also taken to an area hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. The driver is facing charges of driving while intoxicated.
The collision caused traffic disruptions in the area as authorities responded to the scene and cleared the wreckage. The incident is under investigation by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department.
