Hardin County, IA (January 24, 2025) – The Iowa State Patrol has identified the victim in a fatal car versus train crash that occurred on Thursday as 71-year-old Kathaleen Houck from Radcliffe. Tragically, Houck was pronounced dead after the collision.
The crash happened around 11:00 AM on 290th Street, between E Avenue and F Avenue. According to authorities, the driver of a Toyota Prius failed to stop at a railroad crossing, and the train struck the rear passenger side of the vehicle.
Emergency responders airlifted Houck to Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, but she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival. Officials are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
