Benson, NC (January 24, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash overnight Friday on NC Highway 27 West near the Harnett County and Johnston County lines left one person dead and three others injured. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed the details of the fatal collision.
The accident occurred on the 1400 block of NC Highway 27 West, where authorities found both vehicles–a Ford passenger car and a GMC pickup truck–off the roadway with severe front-end damage. The collision was so severe that an engine was ejected and left sitting in the roadway.
The driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Ford was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries. The driver and passenger of the GMC were also hospitalized.
Preliminary investigations suggest that one of the vehicles crossed the center line, causing the head-on collision. Impairment is suspected to be a contributing factor. However, authorities stated it was too early to determine which vehicle or driver was at fault.
The crash remains under investigation, and further details are expected as authorities continue to gather evidence.
Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time. We extend our condolences to the loved ones of the deceased and wish the injured a full and swift recovery.
