Dayton, OH (January 24, 2025) – A fatal crash involving multiple vehicles closed Harshman Rd for several hours Thursday evening. The tragic accident occurred in the 1300 block of Harshman Rd, just before 7 p.m.
Emergency responders from Dayton Police and local medics were quick to arrive at the scene. According to investigators, an SUV crossed the centerline and collided with two other cars. The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. Another individual involved in the crash sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
While the exact cause of the crash remains unclear, authorities noted that the road conditions may have played a role. “It did start to snow,” said Sgt. Gordon Cairns of the Dayton Police. “The roads were starting to get slick. That could very easily have been a reason. But again, these are all things that we’ll have to look into and get some sort of toxicology report.”
Tow trucks removed the damaged vehicles from the scene, and plow trucks worked to clear snow and salt the road. Once the road was deemed safe, Harshman Rd was reopened to traffic. The crash remains under investigation as police work to determine contributing factors.

Car Accidents in Ohio
Winter weather often poses additional hazards on Ohio’s roadways, with slick and snow-covered surfaces increasing the likelihood of collisions. Multi-vehicle crashes, such as the one on Harshman Rd, frequently result in severe injuries or fatalities, particularly when vehicles lose control or cross into opposing lanes of traffic.
Snow and ice can lead to reduced tire traction and visibility, making it crucial for drivers to adjust their speeds and exercise caution during inclement weather. Investigators may examine if road conditions, speed, or driver distraction contributed to this fatal crash.
Ohio residents are encouraged to follow winter driving safety tips, such as maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles, ensuring proper tire maintenance, and being prepared for changing weather conditions. Unfortunately, even with precautions, accidents can still happen, leaving victims and their families with emotional and financial burdens.
