Botetourt County, VA (January 22, 2025) – A three-vehicle collision involving a GMC Sierra, a Freightliner tractor-trailer, and a Mack dump truck occurred on Tuesday afternoon at Route 460 and Laymantown Rd. The crash was reported at approximately 3:02 p.m., prompting an immediate response from Virginia State Police (VSP) and emergency personnel.
According to VSP, a 2017 GMC Sierra, driven by Erdie M. Trigg III, 73, of Troutville, was traveling east on Route 460. The vehicle failed to yield the right-of-way while attempting a left turn onto Laymantown Rd, resulting in a collision with a westbound 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer. Following the impact, the Freightliner veered off the roadway and overturned. The GMC subsequently struck a 2016 Mack dump truck that was stopped at a nearby stop sign.
Both truck drivers sustained injuries and were transported to local medical facilities for treatment. Fortunately, Trigg, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured. He has been charged with Failure to Yield the Right-of-Way. The crash is currently under investigation by VSP.
Our thoughts are with those affected by this accident. We hope for the swift recovery of anyone injured in this unfortunate event.
Truck Accidents in Virginia
Truck accidents, particularly involving large vehicles like tractor-trailers and dump trucks, are among the most dangerous types of collisions on Virginia’s roadways. Routes such as 460, with heavy traffic, and intersections like Laymantown Rd, often see heightened risks due to driver errors, high speeds, and the sheer size of the vehicles involved.
Virginia has experienced a steady number of truck-related accidents in recent years. Many of these incidents result in severe injuries or fatalities, underscoring the importance of adherence to traffic laws and defensive driving. For drivers of smaller vehicles, yielding the right-of-way and practicing patience around larger trucks can significantly reduce the risk of collisions.
Victims of truck accidents often face a long road to recovery, with medical expenses, lost income, and emotional trauma taking a toll. It’s vital for those affected to understand their rights and options for pursuing compensation to cover these challenges.
