El Paso County, CO (January 21, 2025) – A Colorado State Patrol trooper was involved in a crash while transporting an individual in custody on westbound Highway 24 near Newt Dr on Sunday afternoon.
According to Colorado State Patrol (CSP), the incident occurred at approximately 4:48 p.m. while the trooper was en route with a detainee arrested on a warrant during a prior traffic stop. The crash also involved a Toyota Prius, which was occupied by a single driver. Emergency crews responded to the scene, and the westbound lanes of Highway 24 were temporarily closed for cleanup and investigation.
The trooper was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure, while the detainee sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The driver of the Prius reportedly declined transportation to the hospital. Authorities have not yet released the names of those involved.
