Battle Creek, MI (January 21, 2025) – Three people received treatment for smoke inhalation following a fire at a nine-story apartment building on Springview Dr in Battle Creek late Monday afternoon. The incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. at 231 Springview Dr, near the intersection of Roosevelt Ave and 6 Mile Rd.
The Battle Creek Fire Department reported that the fire originated in the trash compactor on the building’s first floor. Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control and assisted residents in sheltering in place within their apartments. First-floor residents were temporarily relocated to the cafeteria while a damage assessment was conducted.
Emergency crews treated three residents for smoke inhalation at the scene. All were released without the need for hospitalization. The fire’s cause is currently under investigation.
