New Hartford, NY (January 20, 2025) – A two-car crash on Commercial Drive near the Sumo Japanese Steakhouse on Sunday afternoon left two individuals injured. The collision occurred around 4:30 p.m., drawing a swift response from local first responders.

According to authorities, the crash involved a gray 2018 Mazda 3 driven by 57-year-old Theresa Bolos of New Hartford and a blue 2009 Hyundai operated by 60-year-old Philip A. Baratta of Remsen. Police reported that Bolos was attempting to make a left turn out of the Sumo parking lot when her vehicle collided with Baratta’s Hyundai in the roadway. Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage, and airbags were deployed in both cars.

Bolos and Baratta were transported to Wynn Hospital for treatment of their injuries. Bolos was issued a ticket for failure to yield the right of way.

The incident is under review, and traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted as the scene was cleared.

Failure to Yield Accidents in New York

Failure to yield is a leading cause of car accidents, especially at busy intersections or driveways along commercial roads like Commercial Drive. These incidents can lead to significant damage and injuries, as seen in the New Hartford crash. Drivers must exercise caution and follow traffic laws to prevent such collisions.

Victims of failure-to-yield accidents may face medical expenses, vehicle repair costs, and long-term impacts on their well-being. Seeking medical care, documenting the scene, and understanding your legal rights are essential steps in the aftermath of a crash.
