Millsboro, DE (January 18, 2025) – A Level 1 Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) was declared following a crash in the area of Millsboro Hwy and Careys Camp Rd on Friday morning. The collision reported at 9:35 a.m., resulted in seven patients requiring EMS attention, with two sustaining serious injuries and five experiencing injuries.
Emergency responders from Millsboro (83), Gumboro (79), Medics, and Aviation Lifenet were dispatched to the scene. The most seriously injured patients were transported by Lifenet helicopter to Christiana Hospital for advanced medical care. Minor injuries were treated on-site or at local medical facilities.
Traffic in the area was redirected for several hours while crews worked to manage the scene and ensure patient care. The roadway was cleared, and normal traffic resumed at approximately 11:00 a.m. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
A Level 1 MCI declaration indicates an incident involving 5-10 patients and is used to ensure the allocation of sufficient emergency resources. It does not denote the overall severity of injuries for all involved.
