Rio Grande City, TX (January 18, 2025) – A tragic two-vehicle collision claimed the life of 6-year-old Samuel Rafael Gamboa on Friday morning in Rio Grande City. The crash occurred at approximately 7:31 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 83 and FM 3167, according to the Rio Grande City Police Department.
Emergency responders transported Gamboa, who was a passenger in one of the SUVs involved, to Starr County Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Despite their efforts, the young boy succumbed to his injuries. Two other individuals involved in the crash sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were treated at the scene.
The Rio Grande City Grulla Independent School District mourned the loss of Gamboa, a cherished kindergarten student at General Ricardo Sanchez Elementary. In a heartfelt statement, the district expressed their sorrow, saying, “It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Samuel Rafael Gamboa, a cherished kindergarten student in Ms. J. Rodriguez’s class.
